Yoga for all.....body, mind & breath

Parkinson's disease is a condition of the central nervous system and can affect each individual very differently.  Motor related symptoms of Parkinson's may include tremors, rigidity, decreased mobility and instability, while other non-motor related symptoms may include sleeplessness, mood disorders, constipation, low blood pressure and trouble with vision and speech.

Recent studies have shown that exercise and reducing stress can help to slow the progression of Parkinson's and significantly improve the quality of life.  Brain research has also shown that mindfulness, meditation and certain types of exercise can increase gray matter in the brain to support increased cognitive function and also to retrain itself to support areas in the brain that may no longer function properly.

Jodi is a graduate of the Niroga Yoga Therapy training program which encompasses 800 hours of training and direct contact hours learning about chronic conditions of the body, such as Parkinson's.  Jodi's mentors while assisting Parkinson's yoga classes in Berkeley and Walnut Creek include Carol Fisher and Vickie Russell-Bell, both of which have been leading Yoga and Movement classes for Parkinson's for well over 14 years combined.  While assisting Carol and Vickie's classes, Jodi fell in love with the spirit and will of the students.  She also saw the benefits these classes and the community was providing to each and every student and wanted to bring these benefits to those in the Brentwood area.
